新道路交通合集
Merry Christmas from the Boston Central Artery/Tunnel (Big Dig) BAT Team!

BACKGROUND

Officially known as "Ramp A-CN" under Big Dig contract #C17A6, this on-ramp is located on Atlantic Avenue, near from historic Rowes Wharf and High Street in downtown Boston. This is one of the only three key I-93 northbound on-ramps in downtown which carries thousands of motorists per day, giving them a quick ticket out of the city from surface roads.

Ramp A-CN was first opened to traffic in March 29, 2003 when I-93 northbound was officially shifted from the old elevated via-duct to new underground tunnel system. However, A-CN was holding up the weight of the old elevated central artery via-duct for another year and was running at limited capabilities. It became fully operational to its maximum designed capacity at around Sep 2005, after old "Green Monster" elevated via-duct was finally torn down and ground was broken for the Wharf District Parks Project.

In 2004, there was a proposal to build Boston Museum on space between ramps A-CN and CS-P. But Boston Museum Project has since been reassigned to develop on Parcel 12 (ramps CS-SA and CN-SA) near Quincy Market instead. Currently,
New Center for Arts and Culture sponsored by Jewish Community Centers of Greater Boston has been permitted to develop on top of this ramp and CS-P.

The New Center for Arts and Culture building is designed by Daniel Libeskind and is expected to cost approximately $40 million with a projected completion date of 2011. However as of late 2006, no agreements have been signed yet and space surrounding this ramp and CS-P has already been revitalized by garden parks and walkways.
